READ these Before you Undergo Hair Reduction LASER

As per US FDA definition, permanent hair reduction is long-term reduction in the hair growing after a treatment regimen. Many patients experience partial regrowth of hair on their treated areas . This means that laser treatment will permanently reduce the total number of body hair. it will not result in permanent removal of the all hair.

Hair has a well described growth cycle in humans

  • Anagen: active growth phase

  • Catagen: transition period.

  • Telogen : Fall Stage.

Hair has fully loaded melanin only in anagen phase . this phase only is susceptible to injury as laser target is melanin. Only a percentage of hair are in anagen phase at one particular time. Rest is in catagen and telogen. Spacing between sessions is thus done on the basis of hair cycle.

Telogen duration varies from 6 to 24 weeks in different body areas;

An ideal candidate for LHR has following Features:

  • Coarse dark terminal hair.

  • Absence of underlying hormonal imbalance.

  • Realistic expectations.

  • Note: LHR means that it would ensure delay of growth, decrease number of hair and make hair finer.

Before the procedure

  1. No bleaching 2 months before and after the LHR. So in maintenance phase only bleaching can be done.

  2. stop Retinoids and other lightening agents 5 days before and after.

  3. hormones imbalance may be involved in increased hair growth. tests may be done before, during or after LHR sessions.

  4. Many tablets or creams are also responsible for increased hair growth. you must tell any medicines/creams you use; dermatologist Dr Sandeep Gupta may ask you to stop non life saving medicines.

  5. Injections or powders used in gyms for enhancing muscle mass can include steroids. Please stop them and avoid in future too for best results

  6. Areas in vicinity of moles and tattoos (around 1 cm)are avoided to prevent burns.

Gray hair is not reduced by LHR. As black hair reduces, you may see a proportionate increase in grey hair on area.

Procedure

  1. Marking the area to do.

  2. Shaving- after a cleansing gel, It is done with a new razor or an electric machine.

  3. During procedure; around 15 by 15 mm size of handpiece shall be moved over the marked area.

  4. Mild sensation of heat may be felt. if intolerable, settings are modified so efficacy and comfort go hand in hand.

Post procedure: Redness, swelling are expected. burns causing pigmentary changes, though rare, are possible side effect.

Laser hair reduction targets the pigment in hair follicles using concentrated light energy. The laser heats the follicle, damaging it and inhibiting future hair growth.  optimal results need multiple sessions.

Yes, laser hair reduction is generally safe when performed by a trained professional. The procedure is FDA-approved and has been widely used for years. However, some patients may experience temporary side effects like redness, swelling, or mild discomfort.

The number of sessions varies depending on factors such as hair type, skin tone, and the area being treated. On average, most patients require 6-8 sessions spaced several weeks apart for optimal results.

Under the FDA’s definition, “permanent” hair reduction is the long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing after a treatment regime.

Laser hair reduction significantly reduces hair growth, and many people experience long-term results. However, some hair may regrow over time, typically finer and lighter. You may need to schedule maintenance sessions to keep the area smooth.

Advancements in laser technology have made it possible to treat a wide range of skin tones. However, the effectiveness can vary based on the contrast between hair color and skin tone. A consultation with Besr dermatologist  Dr Sandeep Gupta will help determine the best approach for each individual.

During the procedure, you may feel a slight stinging sensation as the laser targets the hair follicles. Afterward, the treated area may appear slightly red or swollen, similar to a mild sunburn. These effects typically subside within a few hours to a day. Sun protection and avoiding certain skincare products may be recommended post-treatment.

As a Dermatologist and LASER Surgeon, I, Dr Sandeep Gupta, am excited to have Motus AX laser system at our clinic. it is cutting-edge technology making laser hair reduction safer,  comfortable, and effective for a wider range of skin types.

The Motus AX laser uses Moveo technology with an Alexandrite laser. It has certain advantages over diode and long-pulsed Nd:YAG lasers, particularly when it comes to treating Asian skin (skin types III-V). Here are relevant points:

1. Wavelength Differences and Safety on Brown Skin

   – Nd:YAG Laser (1064 nm): Traditionally preferred for darker skin types because of its longer wavelength. it penetrates deeper into the skin while minimizing absorption by melanin. This reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation and burns on darker skin.

   – Diode Laser (800-810 nm): Also commonly used for skin types III-V due to deeper penetration and relatively low melanin absorption. However, discomfort is a concern with diode lasers.

   – Motus AX (755 nm Alexandrite)-  Typically avoided for darker skin due to higher melanin absorption and a higher risk of burns. However, Moveo technology of Motus AX mitigates this.it  delivers energy in a controlled, gradual manner, reducing the chance of overheating the skin. minimizing adverse effects like burns and hyperpigmentation.

2. Moveo Technology:

   – Energy Delivery: Unlike traditional single-pulse delivery lasers, Moveo technology  delivers energy in a sweeping, contact-based motion. This ensures:

     – Uniform energy delivery to the target hair follicle with minimal energy loss.

     – Lower peak temperatures, reducing the risk of burning or injuring the epidermis. it is especially important for Asian skin with higher melanin content.

   – Safety: The gradual energy build-up reduces the risk of hot spots .

3. Treatment Efficacy:

   – Speed: Motus AX produces fast laser hair removal, especially in larger areas. its handpiece allows quick, smooth motions .

Better Efficacy on Fine Hair: Alexandrite lasers have traditionally been more effective on finer and lighter hair types. this is as compared to Nd:YAG and Diode lasers.

4. Comfort:

Pain Reduction: The Moveo handpiece has contact-cooling. it reducing discomfort during the procedure.

5. Reduced Downtime and Side Effects:

Motus AX has lower risk of post burn marks and other side effects . it has a safety profile similar to Nd:YAG and diode lasers, typically preferred for Asian skin.

In Summary:

For Asian skin, the Motus AX laser hair removal near me offers a significant advantage by combining the speed and efficacy of an Alexandrite laser with the safety of Moveo technology. it allows it to be used on brown skin types without the usual risks associated with Alexandrite lasers, such as burns or color changes.
